  • From the master bedroom walk out on to a private deck to take advantage of this lovely view to the north to Sucia Island and Georgia Strait and beyond.
  • Directly across the street from Captain Cooks is a tennis court that is available to all guests. But remember to bring your own raquets and balls, or you may purchase them at the sporting goods store in Eastsound.
  • The most amazing summer sunsets may be spotted from this pebble community beach, just a short walk from Captain Cooks, and is available for guest use. The islands across the channel are Matia, Sucia, and Patos, the most northernly point of the contiguous United States.
  • Orcas Island has been a vacation destination for over a century, it was once called the "resort island." The sign proudly hanging above the back patio of this nearly new vacation rental reads: Captain Cooks Resort. This family home sits on property which was once part of what is now Bartwood Resort; at one time named Captain Cooks Resort, hence the sign. And somethings never change, it is still a wonderful place to relax.
  • The sunken living room offers a large sofa (sleeper) where one might watch TV or enjoy the views or sun shining in through two walls of windows.
  • The highlight of the large sunken living room is this impressive river rock propane fireplace. The sofa, pictured on the left, folds out into a comfortable sleeper to provide an extra sleeping area.
  • Watch the fire in the fireplace or TV, or curl up with a good book in this cozy in colorful overstuffed chair. Or maybe you will catch a glimpse of an eagle or porpoise off Point Thompson through the telescope.
  • Captain Cooks has a great room floor plan and sunken living room. The dining area with seating for 6 is centrally located between the large foyer, living room, kitchen. and patio. Two stools are available at the black granite bar for additional seating.
  • Bright, cheerful and contemporary this home offers an easy living environment, partly due to the modern fixtures and appliances.
  • Located on the lower level, just off the foyer, the large master bedroom offers a comfortable queen size bed, private patio and bath with shower and an open, clean feel.
  • Two bedrooms are located on the second story. One of these bedrooms offers a queen size bed.
  • Both upper level bedrooms share a view of Thompson Point and Mount Baker.
  • The third bedroom, also on the upper level, features two twin beds.
  • The convenient utility room, just off the garage, will provide you with ample changing room after a family beach visit.

This home looks toward an expanse of Orcas Island’s northshore waterfront, and snow-capped Mt. Baker. A part of island history, there is a nameplate on the back porch reading “Captain Cook’s Resort,” as the resort was known before becoming Bartwood Resort. Guests are invited to use the community pebble beach and tennis courts (providing you bring your own beachtowel, racquets and balls!)

If that bracing north wind kicks up, the family will gather before the impressive river rock fireplace that anchors a corner of the living room. This home offers newer appliances, fun nautical decor and many quality amenties for the family to enjoy. The master bedroom is also on the lower level, and it offers a private bathroom with shower, deck, and walk-in closet. Upstairs find two more bedrooms and a bathroom with tub/shower.

Location is the key to island activity, and you’ll find plenty of dining, shopping, and local culture within a two mile drive. Or just stay home and relax, do some beachcombing, and be enchanted by the sun as its sets far to the north in early summer.

Captain Cook’s is a 25 minute drive from the Orcas ferry landing and only 2 miles from Eastsound shops, dining, and entertainment options.

    We have rented a number of houses for vacation over the years and this one was by far in the best condition of them all. We shared the house with another family and there was plenty of room for all of us. The place was close to the rocky beach, and a nearby tennis court. Even with three energetic kids, it was the most restful vacation we have had for a long time.....

    Missed having ready access to the beach. However, we truly enjoyed our stay. We were visted by deer, a Bald Eagle and Blue Heron (twice). Weather could not have been more perfect. The house suited us perfectly. Wonderfully furnished.

    We stayed in late Aug, 2009 at this fantastic home on the north side of Orcase Island. Just a few minutes to town and other adventures. Beautiful home, nautical decor, and what a view from almost every room! Very clean, stylish, and comfortable. Deers, Canadian Geese, and other critters wander free. Walk along the pebble beach or go kayaking. Plenty of parking and tennis court use available too. The only thing that would make it better is a hot tub and a little less firm beds. We will definitely be going back again!
